Milton Town highway workers won the right to rewrite the overtime policy, but it might be three months before they see changes in their paychecks.
The Town Board agreed in executive session Monday night to change town policy to conform with precedent -- vacation, holiday, personal and sick days will be counted as working hours when an employee is called in and works more than 40 hours.
This long-standing practice was ended Jan. 1 when Supervisor Louis Gnip sent out a memo notifying the highway department that the town's written policy, which requires employees to be on the job for 40 hours before collecting …
